Preparation of novel β-CD/P(AA-co-AM) hydrogels by frontal polymerization

Abstract: In this paper, betaine (Bet) was used as a hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA), and acrylic acid (AA) and acrylamide (AM) were used as hydrogen bond donors (HBD) and mixed to form a deep eutectic solvent (DES).

“…However, carbonyl stretching in case of acrylic acid was found at 1699 cm −1 . The peak centred around 1300 cm −1 may occurred due to −O− linkage present in β‐cyclodextrin suggesting the incorporation of β‐cyclodextrin to the gel polymeric structure [37] . The presence of weak band at 2356 cm −1 appeared corresponding to −NH stretching due to the presence of −C−N group of the crosslinker.…”

“…The peak centred around 1300 cm À 1 may occurred due to À OÀ linkage present in βcyclodextrin suggesting the incorporation of β-cyclodextrin to the gel polymeric structure. [37] The presence of weak band at 2356 cm À 1 appeared corresponding to À NH stretching due to the presence of À CÀ N group of the crosslinker. The weakening of À OH intensity in prepared hydrogel indicates the formation of hydrogen bonding responsible for creating the bio-based hydrogel.…”

“…Very recently, Li and co-workers [60] exploited the frontal polymerization method for preparing pH-responsive and β-cyclodextrin-containing poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) hydrogels. Toward this aim, a deep eutectic solvent mixture made of betaine (serving as a hydrogen bond acceptor), acrylic acid, and acrylamide (both serving as hydrogen bond donors) was employed.…”

“…Although the traditional methods such as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray absorption spectrometry (XAS) have high sensitivity and low detection limits, they require complex sample processes and special equipment, which restricts their easy application [10]. The fluorescence analysis method, especially the organic fluorescent probe, can overcome the disadvantages of the earliermentioned methods [11][12][13].…”
