Preparation of novel, liquid, solvent‐free, polyolefin‐based adhesives

Abstract: An innovative procedure for functionalization of polyolefins was developed. It was found that synthesized polyolefins end-capped with trimethoxysilane (silylated polyolefins) are new polyolefin-based adhesives. To prepare the mentioned materials,1-octene as a higher α-olefin was cooligomerized with two linear, nonconjugated dienes (ie, 1,5-hexadiene and 1,7-octadiene) by using metallocene catalyst system, Cp 2 HfCl 2 /MAO, at room temperature. Then, amine-terminated trimethoxysilane (3-aminopropyltrimethoxysil… Show more

“…[38] Furthermore, the high bond strength of synthesized adhesives on Al surface can also be explained by the presence of functional groups, which can form covalent bonds with Al surface, since it is always covered by a natural oxide/hydroxide surface layer. [17] On the other hand, among the utilized polymeric substrates, prepared adhesive shows low adhesion toward PS one. This phenomenon can be due to the lack of functional groups on PS substrate.…”

“…This behavior has already been reported by other authors, too. [17,37] According to the data collected in Table 1, average molecular weight (M n ) is determined as 480 and 715 g/mol, for oligomer and cooligomer samples, respectively (see Figure 3). Surprisingly, insertion of 9-decene-1-ol as a comonomer on oligomer chains led to shifting of M n to higher values.…”
