Preparation of mesoporous carbon nanofibers from the electrospun poly(furfuryl alcohol)/poly(vinyl acetate)/silica composites

Abstract: Mesoporous carbon nanofibers were prepared by carbonizing the poly(furfuryl alcohol)/poly(vinyl acetate)/silica composite. Furfuryl alcohol was employed as a carbon source and was electrospun for the first time. The typical product presented favorable properties to be a novel adsorbent.

“…As the temperature increased, the peaks at 1720 and 1672 cm −1 decreased, and at 380 • C only the η 2 (C=O) mode of activation was present (peak at 1600 cm −1 ). This suggests that, at this temperature, we have an optimum activation of the C=O bond, which might favor the formation of the furfuryl alcohol [18,46,47]. Furthermore, this experiment demonstrates that adsorbed furfural on MgO is stable even at high temperatures, as was already confirmed by Albonetti et al [22].…”

“…To achieve outstanding sound-insulation property, many efforts were contributed for fabrication of hierarchical scale structure. A number of soundproof composites has been developed likes wood-waste tire rubber composite [ 13 ], inorganic particles/polymer composites and nano-composites, including polypropylene/CaCO 3 [ 14 ], resin/hollow glass bead [ 15 ], poly(vinyl chloride)/mica [ 16 ], rubber/carbon nanotube [ 17 ], polyvinylpyrrolidone/graphene oxide [ 18 ], poly(vinyl acetate) mesoporous carbon [ 19 ], and so on. Besides, the porous structure [ 20 ] and honeycomb structure [ 21 , 22 ] can also enhance the sound insulation performance.…”

“…Figure 1 shows the p-XRD data and Raman spectrum of the CCNF-f and SCCNF-f-AW. Image in figure 1(a) represents the typical p-XRD spectrum of CCNF-f with the peaks for (002) and (100) planes appearing at 24.2 • and 43 • , respectively, corresponding to the partially graphitic nature of the sample [53,54]. The broadness could be attributed to the cross-linked carbon resulting in amorphous carbonization of the resorcinol-glutaraldehyde crosslinkage.…”
