Preparation of Fe3O4-C18 nano-magnetic composite materials and their cleanup properties for organophosphorous pesticides

Abstract: Magnetic Fe3O4-C18 composite nanoparticles of approximately 5-10 nm in size were synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. The magnetic Fe3O4-C18 composite nanoparticles were applied for cleanup and enrichment of organophosphorous pesticides. Comparative studies were carried out between magnetic Fe3O4-C18 composite nanoparticles and common C18 materials. Residues of organophosphorous pesticides were determined by g… Show more

“…As shown in Fig. 4(b), after Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles are functionalized with C 18 , the stretching vibration of hydroxyl groups disappears, while a C-H stretching vibrating band at 2920 and 2850 cm −1 arises [13]. This indicates that the C 18 chain is successfully attached to the magnetic nanoparticles by reactions with the hydroxyl groups on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 .…”

“…In recent years, a few researchers have studied the application of alkoxysilanes modified magnetic nanoparticles in bioseparations and purification [13][14][15]. Bruce and Sen have prepared aminopropyl modified magnetite/silica core-shell nanoparticles, and investigated the efficiency of this material in the capture of single-stranded nucleic acids [14].…”

“…S3, spectrum c). The peaks around 3,420 cm −1 in curves a-c related to the -OH group, and the peak at 564 cm −1 corresponds to an Fe-O group [27]. After modification with octadecyltriethoxysilane, characteristic bands of saturated C-H absorption at 2,851 and 2,921 cm −1 and of O-Si-C absorption at 1,623 cm −1 appeared [27] (Fig.…”

“…Zhao et al prepared cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-coated Fe3O4 NPs for the preconcentration of bisphenol A, 4-tert-octylphenol and 4-n-nonylphenol in the presence of CTAB [90][91] . CTAB molecules were self-assembled on the surface of Fe3O4 NPs through electrostatic interaction between the head group of CTAB and the oppositely charged group on the Fe3O4 NPs.…”
