Preparation of Coal-Based Activated Carbon and its Application for Methylene Blue Removal

Abstract: In accordance with an orthogonal experiment design, a series of ACs for methylene blue (MB) removal had been prepared in the presence of small amounts of KOH in raw material combined with delicate acid washing after carbonization and before steam activation. ACs were characterized, and their adsorption capacities for MB were determined as well. It was found that it was feasible to regulate and optimize pore structure in coal-based ACs by tuning preparation conditions concisely and properly, and the MB adsorpti… Show more

“…Among the many reagents proposed for chemical activation zinc chloride (ZnCl 2 ), phosphoric acid (H 3 PO 4 ), aluminum chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium hydroxide (KOH), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) etc. out of which ZnCl 2 , H 3 PO 4 , and KOH, are the most commonly used (Gong, Xie, Yang, & Yao, 2013;Kumar, Ramalingam, & Sathish kumar, 2011;Pathania, Sharma, & Singh, 2017). This research aims to investigate and analyze adsorption efficiency of activated carbon prepared by using soapnut shells and pineapple waste for removal of methylene blue dyes from aqueous solution.…”
