“…Our previous work [23] demonstrated by TEM measurements that the CI sample has poor metallic dispersion on catalyst whereas the UL sample has excellent metallic. Typically, the properties of catalysts and their activities are in close relationship to the degree of metal dispersion.…”

“…The change in catalytic activity with time is likely to be due to the change in size of gold catalyst by sintering. It was reported earlier that there is an optimum size of gold to catalyze the reaction [23,30]. Fig.…”

“…The catalysts were prepared using the incipient wetness impregnation method, which is known to be the most effective preparation method and guarantees that all of the gold precursor can be loaded onto the supports [3][4][5]10,11,18,24]. However, the XRD patterns show that Cat original and Cat 300 have a stronger gold signal, which indicates larger gold particles.…”

“…The gold precursor, HAuCl 4 Á4H 2 O, was dissolved in dilute aqua regia (1:9 aqua regia:H 2 O by volume, 16.4 mL), and then the solution was added dropwise with stirring to the pretreated support in order to obtain the catalyst with a final AuCl 3 loading of 1 wt.%. Stirring was continued at ambient temperature for half an hour and then the product was dried for 24 h at 130°C [11,18]. The obtained catalysts are referred to as Cat original , Cat 300 , Cat 600 , Cat 900 , Cat HCl , Cat HF , Cat H2O2 , Cat H2 , and Cat C2H2 according to the supports used in the preparation process.…”
