Preparation of amphiphilic diblock copolymers with pendant hydrophilic phosphorylcholine and hydrophobic dendron groups and their self-association behavior in water

Abstract: Generation 3.5 poly(amido amine) dendron (G3.5) with 16 n‐butyl terminal groups containing an acrylamide monomer (AaUG3.5) was prepared by condensation between an amino focal group in G3.5 and 11‐acrylamidoundecanoic acid. AaUG3.5 was polymerized using poly(2‐methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (pMPC)‐based macro‐chain transfer agent via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization to obtain amphiphilic diblock copolymers with different compositions. The diblock copolymers… Show more

“…The diblock copolymers P 71 D 3 and P 296 D 1 (see Scheme ) were the same samples as those previously synthesized . Micelles (hydrodynamic diameter: 65 nm, transmission electron microscopic (TEM) diameter: 70.5 nm) of P 71 D 3 (molecular weight: 2.60 × 10 6 ) were formed by 104 molecules .…”

“…Micelles (hydrodynamic diameter: 65 nm, transmission electron microscopic (TEM) diameter: 70.5 nm) of P 71 D 3 (molecular weight: 2.60 × 10 6 ) were formed by 104 molecules . P 296 D 1 (molecular weight: 2.20 × 10 7 ) formed vesicles (hydrodynamic diameter: 230 nm, TEM diameter: 240 nm) consisting of 241 molecules . The aggregation number was calculated by dividing the molecular weight of the aggregate by the molecular weight of a single polymer chain …”

“…However, it is well known that certain block copolymers that contain hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments are capable of self‐assembling to generate a variety of nanostructures in a specific medium . Additionally, the amphiphilic characteristics of some copolymers and their ability to interact with nanoparticles or form aggregates on nanoparticle surfaces promotes the stability of nanoparticles suspensions.…”
