Preparation and X-ray crystal structure analysis of 1,6-dinitrocycloheptatriene

Abstract: Nitration of cycloheptatriene by copper nitrate in acetic anhydride gives 1 -nitrocycloheptatriene and subsequent nitration by nitric acid gives 1,6-dinitrocycloheptatriene; the crystal structure of the dinitro-derivative is described.
