Preparation and synthesis of hydroxyapatite bio-ceramic from bovine bone by thermal heat treatment

Abstract: Calcium phosphate, particularly hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an important material in biomedical engineering applications. The development of HAp is continued rising due to the similarity and biomimetic requirements to the hard tissue of human body such as bone and dental. The purpose of our work was to produce and describe HAp bioceramic powder from environmental and cheap source (Bovine bone) by thermal process at various calcination temperatures. The analysis of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) ver… Show more

“…The results of the elemental analysis from the SEM-EDX characterization in Figure 3 show that the Ca/P value in the hydroxyapatite sample in this study through the calculation of the elemental mass ratio is 1.70. This result is close to the mass ratio of Ca/P hydroxyapatite in natural bone which is 1.67 [17] which gives it superior mechanical properties [18], [19].…”

“…Also, the poor HA mechanical property should be the main reason why there is coating stability. Significant research has been undergone to boost the poor bonding strength of metal / HA interface with the coating technique having effects on the layer reliability, adhesive strength, and stability development on coating methods is thought to be the answer to this issue [318][319][320]. The material properties of reviewed ceramic-based hip implants used for orthopaedic applications are listed in Table 7 below.…”
