Preparation and Sealing of Polymer Microchannels Using Electron Beam Lithography to Pattern Absorber for Laser Welding

Abstract: Laser welding can make very precise joints in plastics products, both in terms of joint location and amount of heating applied. These welding methods allow complex products such as microfluidic devices to be made, where channels and structure resolution below 100 µm is regularly used. However, to date, the dimension of welds made using lasers has been limited by the focus spot size that is achievable from the laser source. Theoretically, the minimum spot size possible from a good quality laser beam is comparab… Show more

“…As EBL can directly write any nanometer level graphics, it is widely used in surface engineering [113,114], the manufacture of microchannels [115], superconductivity [116], quantum dots [117], bionics, photonic crystal, biology [ 118,119], microelectronics, metalenses [120][121][122][123] and so on. Wang et al [124] used EBL combined with film deposition and stripping processes to produce a metalens that focused light into a focus curve of any shape with a predetermined polarization distribution.…”
