Preparation and properties of water‐soluble polyester surfactants. II. Preparation and surface activity of silicone‐modified polyester surfactants

Abstract: ABSTRACT:We prepared a novel series of water-soluble silicone-modified polyesters [poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-silicone polyesters] by reacting organopolysiloxane with a hydroxy-terminated polyester. The polyesters were obtained by the polymerization of maleic anhydride and PEGs (molecular weights ϭ 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 10000). These water-soluble PEG-silicone polyesters can be used as auxiliaries in dyeing process because they exhibit good surface activities such as surface tension, low foaming, and we… Show more

“…PEG400-C8 displayed very low foaming properties under basic (pH 13) conditions. This behavior, which was similar to that of the surface tension, was due to the unique structure of the surfactants (presence of ester bonds) and cleaved products (absence of ester bonds) [31].…”

“…The silicone polyesters were prepared by the reaction of a hydroxyl‐terminated polyester (PEG, molecular weight = 2000–10,000) and an organopolysiloxane. The preparation and purification of these products were described previously 14,15. The following chemicals were used as supplied: magnesium chloride, molecular formula: MgCl 2 (reagent grade obtained from Hayashi Pure Chemical Co., Osaka, Japan), titanium dioxide (Anatase), molecular formula: TiO 2 (supplied by Chyuan‐Yaw, Taipei, Taiwan), methylene blue, molecular formula: C 16 H 18 ClN 3 S (reagent grade obtained from Hayashi Pure Chemical Co., Osaka, Japan).…”
