Preparation and properties of the anodized film on Fe-Cr-Al alloy surface

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to find a way to improve the surface insulation, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of Fe-Cr-Al electrothermal alloy, exploring the best oxidation condition and analyzing the oxidation mechanism. Design/methodology/approach Electrochemical workstation was used for anodic oxidation, and the effect of current density, ethylene glycol concentration and oxidation time on properties of the film were investigated by resistivity test, scanning electron microscope, electrochemical… Show more

“…Severe pitting corrosion and some localized corrosion can be observed with increasing annealing temperature. As reported [32], the Cr in the alloy could form a Cr 2 O 3 passive oxide film and the formation of Al 2 O 3 by the Al content, which could prevent the matrix from further corrosion. Moreover, the breaking-down of the passive film could also dominate the pitting behavior and impair the corrosion resistance [33,34].…”

“…Using an anodizing method [5][6][7], a uniform alumina oxide can be prepared on the surface of the aluminium alloy. However, the coating is porous, its corrosion resistance is poor, and can only protect the substrate in the short-term [8][9][10]. To improve the anti-corrosion of the coating, usually, the through pore needs to be sealed.…”
