Preparation and Properties of Temperature-Sensitive P(NIPAM-AM) Nano–Microspheres in Enhanced Oil Recovery

Abstract: As a new kind of water plugging and profile control agents, the polyacrylamide nano−microspheres have been experimentally applied and achieved satisfactory preliminary results in enhanced oil recovery, especially for low-permeability reservoirs. However, the larger swollen particle size and excessive hydrophilicity limit the effect at the oil−water interface. In order to further improve their profile control and flooding effect, the temperature-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-acrylamide) nano−microspheres… Show more

“…It is necessary to study the influence of the pore throat structure on the flow diversion of microspheres, which may become a key way to explain the poor application effect of microspheres in oilfields. In addition, simulating the performance of the interface between polymer microspheres and crude oil from the perspective of molecular dynamics, 57 the application of polymer microspheres in CO 2 -EOR technology 58 and the development of new high-temperature-resistant polymer microspheres 59 are also feasible research directions.…”

“…The slow expansion of gel particles effectively resolves the contradiction between injectivity and plugging performance. Currently used particle-sized gels and polymer microspheres operate on this plugging mechanism [45][46][47][48]. EE, 2024…”

“…In addressing low-permeability reservoirs, Zhou et al [15] prepared temperature-sensitive P(NIPAM-AM) microspheres by reverse-phase microemulsion polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and AM. PNIPAM exhibits hydrophilicity and microsphere swelling at low temperatures, while it becomes more hydrophobic and the microspheres shrink at high temperatures.…”
