A range of bismuth(li1) and antimony(ll1) thiolates, Bi(SR), ( R = C6F5, 4-MeC6H,, 2,6-Me,C6H, or 3,5-Me,C6H,) and Sb(SR), ( R = 4-MeC,H4 or 3,5-Me,C,H3) has been synthesised and the structures of the two antimony complexes have been determined. Both structures reveal a trigonal-pyramidal antimony centre bonded t o three thiolate groups with, for the 4-MeC,H, complex, additional intermolecular S b S interactions and, for the 3,5-Me,C6H, complex, intermolecular arene to antimony interactions. The syntheses and structures of the organotransition-metal complexes [Bi(SC,F,){M(CO),(q-C,H,)},] ( M = Mo or W) are also reported in which the bismuth centre is bonded to one SC,F, group and two M (CO),(T\-C,H,) fragments with no short intermolecular interactions.Neutral thiolates of antimony(Ir1) and bismuth(u1) are known from a number of studies but relatively few compounds are well characterised and structural data are scarce. For bismuth, compounds which have been described include Bi(SPh), I,'
