Preparation and Properties of Sm2Zr2O7 Ceramics for Thermal Barrier Coatings by APS

Abstract: Material of Sm2Zr2O7composition powder was synthesized by coprecipitation method using Sm2O3and ZrOCl2•8H2O as raw materials, and applied as ceramic topcoats of thermal barrier coating (TBC) by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). The ceramics powder was prepared with proper distribution of particle size about 30-70μm by spray-dried method. Phase analyses revealed that Sm2Zr2O7coatings keeping the single phase with pyrochlore structure before and after the thermal cycling test. The thermally grown oxide at the t… Show more

“…In ref. [125], Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 coatings obtained by atmospheric plasma spraying presented the same phase as the raw material powder made from coprecipitation. After thermal cycle test for 30 times no change of phase structure was observed in Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 coating, but oxidation (led by TGO) was determined which induced to failure of the coating system at the top coat -bond coat interface.…”

“…Moskal et al [7] investigated the gadolinium zirconate. Sun et al [8] developed the technology of Sm 2 Zr 2 O 7 ceramic coating production using the plasma-spraying process. Moskal et al [9] proposed the two concepts of ceramic coatings formation: single-layer Nd 2 Zr 2 O 7 as well as a double layer coating (DLC) with a YSZ and Nd 2 Zr 2 O 7 outer layer.…”
