Preparation and properties of polyamide-6-boehmite nanocomposites

Abstract: Colloidal boehmite particles have been included into a polyamide-6 matrix by in situ polymerization. The particles have been used without any surface modification. Characterization of the nanocomposites has been carried out using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamical mechanical analysis (DMA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). TEM images indicate that the particles have been homogeneously dispersed in the polymer. DSC results show that the presence of boehmite affects the form of crystall… Show more

“…Few papers addressed the investigation of polymeric nanocomposites based upon dispersed boehmite nanoparticles. [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] The objective of this research was to study the influence of boehmite crystallite sizes, varied between 10 and 60 nm, on morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of poly(propylene) nanocomposites.…”

“…Boehmite is a hydrated form of alumina and is stabilized in aqueous system by its electrical double layer repulsion 20 and was used as a sorbent of metal ions, which was embedded on the electrospun PA6 and polycaprolactone matrix. 21 Alumina has been widely used to improve the electrical and mechanical properties of polymer and is expected to improve the dielectric property of polymer and thus increase the storage of generated charges by corona; this can potentially enhance the charge storage capacity of the filter media.…”

“…Few articles have addressed the influence of organophilic boehmite modifications on nanocomposite properties. [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] Here we report on the synthesis and characterization of iPP/organoboehmite nanocomposites with special emphasis being placed upon the investigation of the influence of both boehmite crystallite sizes (10, 40, and 60 nm) and modification with organic carboxylates (CS) and sulfonates such as 12-hydroxystearic acid (HSA), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA), 10-undecylenic acid (UA), and p-dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (OS2) on morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties of iPP nanocomposites.…”
