Preparation and Properties of Oriented Cotton Stalk Board with Konjac Glucomannan-Chitosan-Polyvinyl Alcohol Blend Adhesive

Abstract: The use of formaldehyde-free, biomass-based composites has gained increasing attention in recent years because of their environmental benefits and superior strength properties. In this study, oriented cotton stalk board (OCB) was fabricated with an environmentally friendly, waterbased konjac glucomannan-chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol (KCP) blend adhesive using hot pressing technology. The effects of pressing parameters on the physical and mechanical properties of oriented cotton stalk board were examined in order … Show more

“…Three-layer plywood with the dimensions of 15×15 cm 2 and a moisture content of 10% was prepared using rotary-peeled polar veneer, as specified by Chen et al (2015). The KCP adhesive was applied to the core veneer at a spread rate of 200 g/m 2 (Umemura et al 2003) using a rubber roller.…”

“…Cotton stalk is the primary by-product of cotton production, and is rich in cellulose, lignin, and crude protein (Li et al, 2018), it is an important supplement to resource utilization in the form of biochar (Chen X. et al, 2015;Hou et al, 2014;Hu et al, 2014). According to the China Statistical Yearbook, in 2019, the sown area of cotton in China was 3.3392 × 10 6 ha, and the total yield was 5.889 × 10 6 t, of which Xinjiang accounted for 76.08% of the total and is therefore the main cotton plantation area in China.…”

“…In addition, konjac also contains starch, alkaloids, vitamins, various minerals, amino acids, flavonoids, and other active ingredients. It helps with weight loss, has laxative properties, lowers lipid content and blood pressure, helps with diabetes treatment, has anti-ageing properties, and boosts the intestinal microenvironment [3,[5][6][7]. Therefore, konjac powder also has been widely used in the food and medical industries.…”
