“…Sulfur accepts two electrons per formula unit in electrochemistry and exhibits higher theoretical specific capacity (1675 mAhg ) and higher theoretical specific energy (2600 mWhg -1 with lithium anode) than any other known cathode active material [5][6][7][8][9]. Furthermore, sulfur is abundant in various minerals, cheap, and environmentally friendly.…”

“…10 Two issues were simultaneously improved: (i) conductivity (due to the carbon conductive host) and (ii) soluble polysulfides trapping into the pores of conductive skeletons. Thus, different porous carbon hosts produced by hard template approaches, 49 heteroatom (sulfur, boron or nitrogen) doped carbons, [50][51][52] core-shell carbon/sulfur composites, 53 graphene-wrapped sulfur particles, 54,55 graphene oxides, 56 hollow carbon nanofiber, 57 carbon nanotubes 58 were already suggested (detailed information can be found in Chapter 2). Although most of these strategies proved to be feasible in slowing down the diffusion of soluble polysulfides, they do not represent viable solutions for long cycle time due to the unavoidable migration of soluble polysulfides since negatively charged polysulfides anions can easily be dragged toward Li anode side under an electrical field.…”

“…In addition to, sulfur is abundant in nature, inexpensive and environmental harmless. Thence, there is a strong impetus to develop Li/S batteries [9] .Apart from these; sulfur has some drawbacks in the practical usage. However the cyclic stability of lithium-sulfur batteries is not high, which is ascribed to the low electric conductivity of sulfur [14] and dissolution of lithium polysulfides in electrolyte [15,16] .Lithium polysulfides are intermediate products of electrochemical reactions between sulfur and lithium ions.…”
