Preparation and Modification Technology Analysis of Ionic Polymer-Metal Composites (IPMCs)

Abstract: As a new type of flexible smart material, ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) has the advantages of being lightweight and having fast responses, good flexibility, and large deformation ranges. However, IPMC has the disadvantages of a small driving force and short lifespan. Based on this, this paper firstly analyzes the driving mechanism of IPMC. Then, it focuses on the current preparation technology of IPMC from the aspects of electroless plating and mechanical plating. The advantages and disadvantages of var… Show more

“…The electroless plating process allows the easy autocatalytic deposition and production of composite film and coatings. The electroless plating utilizes the reaction of metastable redox pairs (e.g., , ), formed by dissolved reducing agents and metal ions or complex compound for achieving the formation of metallization [ 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 ].…”

“…The IPMCs are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, cross-sectional morphology and in term of electromechanical performances [ 28 , 29 ]. The IPMCs applications can be found in [ 21 , 30 , 31 , 32 ] since they are the most promising development materials. Although many models are useful for studying the capabilities of electroactive polymers and characterization bench [ 30 , 31 ] this article focuses on design of experimental laboratory stand and characterization of IPMCs materials.…”

“…Currently, improving the antiwear performance of flowing components relies on surface treatment techniques [ 4 – 6 ] and antiwear materials [ 7 – 9 ]. The surface treatment technology can directly improve the surface strength and hardness of the blade while providing a coating, but it is costly and has limitations.…”
