Preparation and filtration property of hemp-based composite nonwoven

Abstract: Different hemp-based mono-layer and composite nonwovens were prepared to study the oil filtration properties and to select better product for practical application. Hemp/ cotton spunlaced nonwoven, hemp/viscose spunlaced nonwoven, hemp/viscose spunlaced nonwoven impregnated polyacrylic adhesives, hemp woven fabric, and PA6 nanofiber collected on the surface of hemp/viscose spunlaced nonwoven were prepared to make a comparison of filtration properties. Then, two-layer/multi-layer composite nonwovens were also p… Show more

“…For polyamide 6 electrospun nanofibers, Jianyong and Jianchun (2015) found very high pressure drops, about 12 kPa for 0.001 m s −1 . In the case of electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers with cellulose filter, Cho et al (2013) obtained about 11 kPa pressure drop for 0.1 m s −1 of face velocity.…”

“…In fact, wet-laid allows reaching this high fiber content in contrast to other conventional manufacturing techniques such as injection moulding, extrusion among others. 21 The consolidation of the nonwoven was mainly due to the lignocellulosic fibers of the hemp waste being "trapped" between the longer binding fibers 22 and, in some cases, thermal bonding of the PLA fibers due to their partial melting. These binder fibers formed a network that allows the consolidation of the nonwoven with a high load of hemp waste.…”

“…With the characteristics of connected pores, NFs are extensively used in dust and liquid filtration for the removal of particles larger than 1 mm during decontamination. The advantage of using nonwoven as filtration media is that the fiber configuration can be arranged according to the required pore size and its distribution, thereby maximizing the filtration efficiency depending upon the particular filtration mechanism involved [11][12][13][14].…”
