Preparation and Evaluation of Properties of Cast Metallic Foams with Regular Inner Structure

Abstract: Lately we encounter still more new applications of metallic foams, as well as possible methods of their manufacture. These metallic materials have specific properties, such as large rigidity at low density, in some cases high thermal conductivity, capability to absorb energy, etc. The work is focused on the preparation of these materials using conventional casting technology, which ensures rapid and economically feasible method for production of shaped components. In the experimental part we studied conditions… Show more

“…The used material was the AlSi10Mg alloy. 4,5 The next step was the creation of several different variants of the gating system and their comparison. Subsequently, the suitable candidate for the design-ofexperiments (DoE) analysis was chosen.…”

“…In order to ensure fast filling, the inlet system was designed as an overpressure. The gating system was then designed as slightly oversized in order to achieve higher rigidity of the resulting glued pattern [21]. Ratio of individual elements of the inlet system: gate area 1: area of the distribution runner 1.1: area of the sprue pole 1.2.…”
