Preparation and characterization of transparent/conductive nano-composites films

Abstract: Polymer-embedding of nano-sized indium tin oxide (SnO center dot In2O3, ITO) produces electrically conductive materials transparent to the visible light at filling factors higher than the percolation threshold. ITO powders are commercially available in an aggregated form and a disaggregation technique was required. Here, aggregated ITO nanoparticles were transformed to colloidal suspension by high-speed stirring. This finely dispersed ceramic suspension was stabilized by addition of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and… Show more

“…This is because these nanocomposites can exhibit better mechanical [3][4][5], optical [6][7][8][9], magnetic [10], electrical [5,11], and optoelectronic [12] properties than the polymer systems. For instance, some ceramic and semiconductor nanocrystals have been incorporated into polymer matrices to increase the refractive index of composites for use in the fields of optical waveguides, ophthalmic lenses, and antireflection coatings.…”

“…Several works focused on understanding the influence of molecules, 36,37 polymers [38][39][40] and insulating barriers on the conductivity in nanoparticle composites. Models for percolation and hopping of electrons through nanoparticle assemblies have been investigated.…”

“…They are known as multifunctional materials because they have, usually, more than one property increased for some special application [1][2][3][4]. Up to now, a great effort has been done by researches to achieve multifunctional nanocomposites of polymeric matrices filled with metallic, ceramic or inorganic phase, and in this work we studied the influence of conductive ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) nanowires on the electrical and the optical properties of Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) polymer [5][6][7][8]. PMMA is a polar polymer which is extensively commercially used because of its excellent transparence in the visible range of electromagnetic radiation, good mechanical properties and light weight.…”
