Preparation and Characterization of Sol−Gel MgAl Hydrotalcites with Nanocapsular Morphology

Abstract: A series of MgAl hydrotalcites (HTs) were synthesized by a sol-gel procedure with ethanol, 2-propanol, and 1-butanol as solvents. Particular attention was paid to controlling hydrolysis reactions by means of using a substoichiometric H 2 O/Al molar ratio equal to 1. The sol-gel HTs were characterized by means of thermogravimetry, mass spectrometry (MS) of the decomposition products, X-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT), electron microscopy, and N 2 adsorption-desorption. Decompo… Show more

“…Moreover, the urea hydrolysis method can also produce large LDH hexagonal platelets of 4 mm [15] or 2À 20 mm [16], which do not seem suitable for the previously mentioned applications. Hitherto, although there are lots of reports on LDHs, only few are focused on how to obtain nanostructure particles and control their shape [17][18][19]. Therefore, it is still a challenge to crystallize nanostructured LDHs with special shape so far.…”
