A new efficient catalytic method for aza/thia-Michael addition reactions of amines/thiols with higher product yields has been developed. Combining single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) with triethylammonium hydrogen phosphate (TEAP) ionic liquid (IL) can work as a catalyst. We utilized Raman spectroscopy to gain insight into the interactions between IL and SWCNT. The interactions between SWCNT with TEAP were confirmed by the increasing intensity ratios and spectral shift in wavelength of the Raman D and G bands of SWCNT. Further, the morphology of the resulting composite materials of TEAP and SWCNT was determined by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Higher product yield in reduced reaction time is the key advantage of using bucky gel as a catalyst for Michael reaction.

A novel composite was fabricated through dispersing multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) in gold nanoparticle (GPs) colloid stabilized by chitosan and ionic liquid (i.e., 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, BMIMBF 4 ). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) experiment showed that the GPs highly dispersed on the MWNTs probably due to the electrostatic interaction among GPs, MWNTs and the imidazolium cation of BMIMBF 4 . X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that thus-formed gold nanostructure was mediated by BMIMBF 4 . When glucose oxidase (GOD) was immobilized on the composite (MWNTs-GPs) its ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum kept almost unchanged. The immobilized GOD coated glassy carbon electrode (GOD/MWNTs-GPs/GC) exhibited a pair of well-defined peaks in 0.10 M pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution (PBS), with a formal potential of À 0.463 V (vs. SCE). The electrochemical process involved two-electron transfer. The electron transfer coefficient was ca.0.56 and the electron transfer rate constant was 9.36 s À1. Furthermore, the immobilized GOD presented good catalytic activity to the oxidation of glucose in air-saturated PBS. The K m and I m values were estimated to be 13.7 mM and 0.619 mA. The GOD/MWNTs-GPs/GC electrode displayed good stability and reproducibility.

In this context, (bio) sensors based on electrochemical principles stand out due to their marked advantages in terms of simplicity, robustness, low cost, miniaturization capability and integration to devices.These sensors are becoming very attractive for rapid and simple diagnostic, in fields such as biotechnology, clinical and environmental research.Historically, carbon has been a widely used and practical electrode material due to its desirable properties for electrochemical applications. Available in a variety of structures, carbon electrodes provide, in general, good electrical conductivity, high thermal and mechanical stability, a wide operable potential window with slow oxidation kinetics and, in many cases, electrocatalytical activity. On top of that, they are recognized as versatile and easy handling materials, and also praised by their rich surface chemistry which has been exploited to influence surface reactivity. Thus, The third and last part of the study is focused on exploiting the semiconductor character of carbon nanotubes for sensor technology by using a field effect transistor XXIX configuration (FET). The CNT-FET device has been optimized for operating in liquid environment by performing passivation protocols.
