Preparation and Characterization of Polyester Staple Yarns Nanowrapped with Polysulfone Amide Fibers

Abstract: In this study, a novel approach and the related electrospinning equipment were developed to fabricate a new type of polyester staple yarn wrapped with poly(sulfone amide) (PSA) fibers at the nanoscale. As the number of tubes of spinnerets, electrospinning voltage, and rotation speed of the funnel collector have effects on the structure and properties of the nanowrapped yarns, three series of wrapped yarns were prepared using the self-developed electrospinning and wrapping equipment; these wrapped yarns at the … Show more

“…Polysulfone amide (PSA) is a representative polymer for new-type high-temperature resistant fibers, and the micron-sized PSA fibers have been widely used [ 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 ]. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is a conventional chemical fiber and is an important material for the preparation of carbon fiber precursors [ 30 , 31 , 32 ].…”

“…A subsequent, two-nozzle variation is especially widespread and has been adopted in various works [28][29][30][31][32][33]. The first nozzle is arranged opposite to the second, with both nozzles most commonly being charged with opposite voltages (Figure 4b), although some authors, e.g., Jin et al [29] and Tong et.…”

“…5 Nanofibrous coresheath yarns are of flexible materials which have advantages of both yarn and sheath components. 6,7 Liquid transfer is an evitable phenomenon in porous structures such as fibrous materials. Therefore, studying the wicking behavior and water absorption of fibrous structures is of great importance in a wide range of applications especially in filtration systems, biomedical, 8,9 tissue engineering, 10 electronics, 11 and apparel.…”

“…Therefore, studying the wicking behavior and water absorption of fibrous structures is of great importance in a wide range of applications especially in filtration systems, biomedical, 8,9 tissue engineering, 10 electronics, 11 and apparel. 7 The wicking behavior in a fibrous material mainly depends on capillary size, capillary continuity, and surface characteristics such as contact angle. 12,13 The height of wicked water can be calculated theoretically based on Lucas-Washburn equation which relates the maximum height of wicked water to the surface tension, contact angle, and capillary radii.…”
