In this study, a fluorescent material, 2-naphthyl-4-amino benzoate, is synthesized by the esterification of 4-aminobenzoic acid with 2-naphthol. This molecule is used in the bulk polymerization of aniline, which results in the formation of poly(aniline-2-naphthyl-4-aminobenzoate). For comparison, polyaniline and also poly(aniline-4-aminobenzoic acid) salts are prepared via bulk polymerization. Formation and properties of these polymeric materials are evaluated by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization, UV-Vis, Fluorescence, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis, electrical resistance and electrochemical techniques. P(ANI-2NA4ABA) is obtained in nanofiber morphology in 106 wt% yield with respect to the amount of aniline used with comparable conductivity of conventional polyaniline salts. This polymer salt is stable up to 220 C and indicates melting at 146 C on heating and crystal formation at 128 C on cooling. This polymer shows higher wavelength fluorescence compared to the conventional polyaniline salts. This polymer is used as an electrode material without binder, which shows a specific capacitance of 360 F g −1 at 0.25 A g −1 . Polymer-based solid acid catalyst, polyaniline (PANI) salt, is used for the first time to synthesize polymer. In continuation of our work to synthesize organic chemicals using PANI-based solid acid catalyst, in this work, polylactic acid is synthesized by the condensation polymerization of lactic acid using PANI salts. PANI salts are characterized by FTIR, FE-SEM, and TGA analyses. Polymerization of lactic acid in xylene solvent at 140C for 24 h with the use of very low amount of PANI catalysts gave polylactic acid (PLLA) in the. Molecular weights of PLLA synthesized using PANI-MSA and PANI-TFA are found to be 4385 and 4830, respectively. This methodology gives highly crystalline polymer with mushroom cap-like morphology. Advantage of this methodology is the use of easily synthesizable, recyclable, easily handlable, cheaper, and eco-friendly nature of the catalyst.

Polyaniline samples are prepared via a chemical polymerization pathway of aniline in water medium. The aim of this work is to carry out the polymerization of aniline in an organic solvent medium. Since the oxidant, methyltriphenylphosphonium peroxodisulfate (MTPPS), is soluble in acetonitrile solvent, aniline was oxidatively polymerized in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid and MTPPS via a solution polymerization pathway (PANI-Sol). For comparison, a polyaniline salt was synthesized via emulsion (PANI-Eml) and interfacial (PANI-Int) polymerization pathways. These three polymerization pathways lead to the formation of polyaniline-p-toluenesulfonate salt (PANI-p-TSA) in acetonitrile solvent as a green approach. The powder form of PANI-p-TSA was isolated from the solution by precipitation with acetone solvent. Formation of polyaniline was confirmed by infrared and X-ray diffraction spectral results. PANI-Sol, PANI-Eml, and PANI-Int showed nanocrystal, nanopetal, and nanospherical morphology, respectively. The yield and the conductivity of the polyaniline salt prepared in the present study are comparable with those of the conventional polyaniline salt. The specific capacitances of the PANI-Eml, PANI-Sol, and PANI-Int were 460, 424 and 300 F g À1 , respectively, which was higher than the conventional PANI-p-TSA salt. The energy densities were 23, 21.2, and 15 W h kg À1 , respectively at a power density of 200 W kg À1 . After 2000 charge-discharge cycles, the retention in the specific capacitance values of the polyaniline salts were 70.4% (PANI-Sol), 73% (PANI-Eml) and 69.3% (PANI-Int).
