Preparation and Characterization of Liquid Smoke from Wood Sawdust Azadirachta excelsa (Jack) M. Jacobs and its Application as a Natural Rubber Coagulant

Abstract: Azadirachta excelsa (Jack) M. Jacobs (AE) sawdust is a waste from the furniture industry that is not utilized and causes environmental problems. AE sawdust that contains cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin can be used as liquid smoke for various applications. This study aims to perform the production, characterization, and application of liquid smoke as a latex coagulant. AE liquid smoke was produced at ± 300-350 °C by pyrolysis temperature for 6 hours. The yield of AE liquid smoke was 30.59% with characteris… Show more

“…The sharp absorption in the region of 1556.55, 1510.26, and 1573.91 cm-1 is thought to be from aromatic C=C. This assumption is strengthened by the emergence of absorptions at wave numbers 2972.31, 2972.31, and 2980.02 cm-1 , which are absorptions from sp2 C-H [20]. Identification of flavonoids from various grades liquid smoke using thin layer chromatography (TLC) in this study aims to confirm the presence of phenolic compounds and flavonoids in various grades liquid smoke compared to quercetin.…”
