Preparation and Characterization of Lafutidine as Immediate Release Oral Strip Using Different Type of Water-Soluble Polymer

Abstract: Objective: The objective of the present study was to design and optimize oral fast dissolving film (OFDF) of practically insoluble drug lafutidine in order to enhance bioavailability and patient compliance especially for a geriatric and unconscious patient who are suffering from difficulty in swallowing. Methods: The films were prepared by a solvent casting method using low-grade hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC E5), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (SCMC) as film forming polyme… Show more

“…While PP2S2 has no wrinkles in the part of the heavy handover, BPB already has obvious folds, which is enough to show that PP2S2 composite membrane has excellent mechanical properties. By comparing with the reported membranes, as shown in Figure c, the membranes studied in this paper maintain high elongation at break and high tensile strength and are competitive in future practical applications. …”

“…UV spectroscopic method was used to identify lafutidine [5,6]. Standard solutions of lafutidine were prepared by diluting a known amount of the drug in 0.1N HCl (10,20,30,40,50, and 60μg/ml).…”

“…In the context of clinical utility, Lafutidine (LF, a model drug), is an H 2 -receptor antagonist [21] and proton pump inhibitor belonging to BCS II class [22][23][24], used in the treatment of gastric ulcer [21,25]. Since, it has poor aqueous solubility [24], short elimination half-life (1.5-2 h) [26], pKa 1.7, absorption window from the stomach [26,27]; it becomes an appropriate candidate for FDDS.…”
