Preparation and Characterization of Hybrid Nanocomposites for Dental Applications

Abstract: The study involved research related to the selection of the material with improved functional properties that can be used for dental prostheses. An innovative system of nanofillers, that differ in shape, by means of gelatin-modified halloysite nanotubes (HNTs-g) along with silane-coupled aluminum trihydrate (ATH-sil) was prepared, in order to observe a synergistic improvement of acrylic material (methyl methacrylate with methyl methacrylate monomer (MM/mMM)). Selected mechanical properties of manufactured nano… Show more

“…On TGA curves for pristine ATH and ATH-sil (Figure 7a), one can observe clear differences. The detailed analysis on these two materials can be found in our previously published paper [35], but in brief: pristine ATH exhibited two mass losses: the first one in the temperature range of 20-165 • C corresponds to the loss of adsorbed water [14] and the second major mass loss in the temperature range of 180-600 • C corresponds to the decomposition of surfactant molecules [44]. In turn, the ATH-sil decomposes in one major step, however, its decomposition temperature was improved by about 20 • C. It is especially well observed at the DTG, where the maximum of thermal decomposition has been shifted from 288 • C (pristine ATH) to 300 • C for the ATH-sil.…”

“…Significant bone resorption following teeth extractions deteriorates the clinical conditions for satisfactory denture retention and stability; retention and stability clearly decrease after several years [5,6]. Efforts have been made to develop a material for dental prostheses with the best functional properties [7]. Retention of dentures can be improved by using denture adhesives or relining dentures.…”
