“…Furthermore, prolonged mechanical ventilation after coronary artery bypass grafting was associated with a reduction in early and mid-term survival. Findings from a study conducted by Zanini et al showed that there was an association between maximal expiratory pressure, which was measured preoperatively as respiratory muscle function, and the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, and combined procedures [Zanini 2016]. Their study demonstrated that each 1-cm H2O increase in maximal expiratory pressure reduced the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation by approximately 7 minutes.…”
