“…The immune response has been found to differ depending on the type of cancer. With pancratic cancer, a marked increase in lymphocytes occurs preoperatively and postoperative [25]. The NLR was not associated with the prognosis of pancratic cancer.…”

“…The reduced lymphocyte count is connected with an increased number of septic complications during the postoperative period (7,8,27). Considering the 65 patients subject to pancreatoduodenal area resections the average lymphocyte count was 2.13 K/µL.…”

“…Algorithm data considering the extent of the operation, predicted blood loss, presence of cancer and tumor stage, as well as type of operation are known surgical perioperative risk factors. Each of the above-mentioned factors were considered independently showing the prognostic value in patients subject to pancreatoduodenal area resections (1,3,4,5,7,9,10,18,20,25,27). A comparable range of surgery in all patients is burdened with significant risk of complications, and resections of the pancreas and duodenum are considered as the most extensive and difficult operations of the alimentary tract (1, 4, 5, 30).…”

“…To date, several studies also have shown that decreased preoperative LC was related to poor prognosis in various types of cancers including pancreatic cancer [10], esophageal cancer [11], renal cancer [12], and sarcoma and lymphoma [15]. Lymphocytes include CD4 + and CD8 + T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, NKT cells, gamma-delta T cells, and B cells, which are reported to be closely associated with tumor immunity.…”

“…Functional impairment of lymphocytes and decreased lymphocyte counts (LCs) have been reported in various types of cancers [8, 9]. Preoperative lymphopenia is reportedly associated with poor prognosis in several cancers [10-12], and this indicates that preoperative lymphopenia may reflect impaired host anticancer defense mechanisms. However, we previously reported that a rapid and significant decrease in total lymphocyte numbers was observed after surgery for GC [13].…”
