“…Successful tumor localization has been achieved with a sensitivity ranging from 72% to 90%, a specificity of 100%, and an overall accuracy of 82% in patients with carcinoid tumor and gastrinoma. Previously unrecognized metastases were also detected [3,6,7,14].…”

“…Octreotide scans appear particularly useful for imaging gut neuroendocrine tumors [5,6]. The density of cell membrane-bound somatostatin receptors in gastro-enteropancreatic endocrine tumors is often much greater than that found in normal tissue and this facilitates radionuclide labeling and scintigraphic imaging of tumors.…”

“…Similar results from other institutes have followed. [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] These articles describe the agent as sensitive especially for neuroendocrine gastro-enteropancreatic tumors and the scintigraphy often detects unknown lesions missed by other conventional methods 8.10,15 The optimal time for imaging of the scintigraphy has been discussed. Many articles recommend late imaging because of high background in the early stages of imaging.…”
