Prenatally Diagnosed Infantile Myofibroma of Sartorius Muscle—A Differential for Soft Tissue Masses in Early Infancy

Abstract: Background: Infantile myofibromatosis (IM) is a soft tissue disease with solitary or multiple benign tumors, and an etiology still unknown. IM is a mesenchymal disorder of early infancy and is more frequent in males. IM may present as a solitary lesion of the skin, bone, muscle, subcutaneous tissue, located at the head, neck, and trunk, with good prognosis; or, as a multicentric form, with or without visceral involvement (heart, lung, gastrointestinal tract, kidney), with a poor prognosis. The definitive diagn… Show more

“…Despite its potential complications, biopsy of the lesion remains the gold standard for the diagnosis of myofibroma. 17 All suspected lesions should undergo histopathology exam to rule out more aggressive tumors as well as planning the surgical and non-surgical management. Potential complications of bone biopsy include bleeding, infection, needle tip breakage, and seeding of tumor along the needle track, however these are reported in less than 5% of musculoskeletal core needle biopsy.…”

“…They are preferentially located in the head and neck [75%] and axilla [20%]. The abdominal location of lymphangiomas is rare, and precisely, this location allows the lesion to grow and cause late symptoms [ 8 ]. Intra-abdominal lymphangioma is a rare entity.…”

“…The final image is noise-free thanks to the exponential transform. The authors of [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ] examine and summarize popular techniques for reducing speckle noise in ultrasonic images for the most part. We evaluate the different approaches via experiments, highlighting the distinctive contributions of each strategy to feature retention and denoising using quality assessments, texture analysis, and profile interpretation.…”

“…To improve edge maintenance and eliminate noise, the goal function here should have small values. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize the objective function, as shown in Equation (24). j = arg(min(I(J)))…”
