Prenatal intestinal histology and histochemistry in the goat

Abstract: The mucosa of the small and large intestine of goat fetuses exhibited villi which had disappeared after the 32.5-cm curved crown rump (CVR) stage. At places, the stratified epithelial lining persisted among the normal columnar epithelium with goblet cells. The concentration of goblet cells increased with age, while the thickness of the epithelium decreased. The crypts of Lieberkühn were tortuous at the base. Brunner’s glands appeared at the 14.2-cm CVR stage. Peyer’s patches appeared at the 24.5-cm CVR stage i… Show more

“…Alkaline phosphatase localized in the brush border membrane of intestine might be correlated with role in the absorption of cholesterol, lipid, vitamin D, calcium, amino acids, and glucose (Şensoy & Oznurlu, 2019). No acid phosphatase activity was noticed in any segment of intestine up to end of early prenatal period which was in full agreement with Ramkrishna and Tiwari (1979) in goat. The less occurrence of acid phosphatase enzyme might be correlated with intracellular digestive activity of intestinal epithelium before birth.…”

“…The presence of lipids found in this investigation could be correlated the lipids provide most concentrated energy resource to the cell and they are essential component of cell membrane. The luminal border of epithelial cells and mesothelium took mild to moderate alkaline phosphatase reaction which was in agreement with Ramkrishna and Tiwari (1979) in goat feti and Şensoy and Oznurlu (2019) in Swiss albino mice. Intestinal alkaline phosphatase has an important role in gut mucosal defence (Fawley and Fawley & Gourlay, 2016).…”
