Prenatal and Infant Development.

Abstract

THROUGHOUT our study of the hereditary background of JL the individual we were confronted with the fact that the inherited structures were influenced by the biochemical environment in which they matured. We concluded that an individual resulted from an interaction between the growing organism and its surroundings. Now we wish to examine more carefully the essential features of this interaction. Those who have worked intensively upon this aspect of the developmental process have kept a number of definite problems before them. A statement of these problems may be in order as we begin our survey.
