Experiments were conducted in the experimental Horticulture Research Station at Qaha, Qalubiya governorate under greenhouse conditions during two successive seasons (2016-2017 and 2017-2018). The study aims to evaluate some pest control methods on cucumber, Cucumis sativus L. and their effect on total yield. Population density of Bemisia tabaci (Geen.), Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) and Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley determined on cucumber plants. Blue and yellow sticky traps were settled in first greenhouse in rate of 13 traps (10 blue and 3 yellow). The second greenhouse was treated in foliar spray by (closer SC24% "Sulfoxaflor" at 10cm 3 /20L plus 13 traps (10 blue and 3 yellow). The third greenhouse without treatments (untreated). Results indicated that, the activity period of B. tabaci, F. occidentalis and P. solenopsis on cucumber plants during both seasons was expressed by two and three peaks. The effects of different treatments of pest control methods (traps, pesticides + traps) were high significantly in reducing pests` population and increase yield. Where, in untreated plots, B. tabaci, F. occidentalis and P. solenopsis were responsible for 98% and 99%, reduction in yield respectively. Maximum and minimum temperature were showed that significant negative effect on the population in first season conversely, in the second season cleared significant positive on B. tabaci, F. occidentalis and P. solenopsis population. The relative humidity had significant positive effect on first season however in the second season found insignificant. The combined effect (E.V) of these ecological factors on B. tabaci, F. occidentalis and P. solenopsis showed that these factors were responsible as a group for 94 %, 90 %, 92 during 2016-2017 and 98, 98, 99 during 2017-2018 effects on the population density of insects throughout both seasons, respectively. The obtained results revealed that, the treatment of pesticide with traps (yellow and blue) reduced effectively population of whitefly, thrips and mealy bugs and increase the yield during the two seasons of the study.

Four vegetable host plants, cucumber, Cucumis sativus L; Squash, Cucurbita pepo L; eggplant, Solanum melongena L. and kidney bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L.were cultivated at Namoul village, Toukh district, Qalyoubia Governorate for two successive summer seasons throughout 2014 and 2015 to study the population fluctuation, host preference, damage percentages and control of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis. The obtained results revealed that the occurrence of F. occidentalis was recorded during the whole period of flowering stage from May, 10 th to July,5 th and the population density was increased and concentrated from the period between May, 24 th to June, 28 th on all the four tested crops. The population fluctuation of F. occidentalis was differed according to host plant. Two peaks were recorded on squash and kidney bean flowers during the two studied seasons. While, 2&3 peaks were observed on both cucumber and eggplant flowers in both seasons, respectively. Cucumber flowers was infested by significantly highest numbers of F. occidentalis rather than the other three tested crops and considered as the susceptible crop, as the seasonal mean numbers were 8.03 and 7.48 individuals / flower in the two seasons, respectively. On the contrary, kidney bean flowers infested by the significantly lowest numbers of this pest, 1.87 and 3.26 individuals / flower in the two tested seasons, respectively. During the two tested seasons, F. occidentalis caused a significant damage in the flowers of all studied crops. The significantly heaviest damage percentage was recorded on cucumber flowers, being 29.12 and 26.66 % in the two seasons, respectively. While, the lightest damage was determined on kidney bean flowers, showing 6.66 and 11.78% in the two seasons, respectively. Acetamiprid (Mospilan 20% SP) and Thiamethoxam (Actara 25 % WG) gave the significant highest reduction of F. occidentalis infesting cucumber flowers, as the average of their reductions after 14 days of spraying 81.80 and 75.17%, respectively. Carbosulfan (Marshal 20% EC) and Spinosad (Tracer 24 % SC) gave considerable results in reducing the population density of the thrips (68.70 and 67.13% after 14 days, respectively).While, Spinetoram (Radiant 12% SC) gave the significantly lowest reduction after 14 days (60.03%).

Two programs for controlling the western flower thrips (WFT), Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), were evaluated. Greenhouse experiments were conducted for reducing F. occidentalis populations on pepper plants. The first program was by releasing four phytoseiid predacious mite species namely Neoseiulus arundonaxi (Metwally and Sanad), N. barkeri (Hughes), N. bicaudus (Wainstein), and Cydnoseius negevi (Swirski and Amitai) in the presence of blue sticky traps. The second one was by applying four sequential applications of different pesticides. Results showed that two releases of N. bicaudus, N. barkeri, and N. arundonaxi in the presence of the blue sticky traps reduced WFT population by 45 to 56%. The best control management of the WFT was by the following insecticides: chlorfenapyr, imidacloprid, azadirachtin, and agricultural potassium soap (third program).
