Baccaurea is a genus of flowering plant belongs to the family Phyllanthaceae categorically large genus with members of up to 100 species and few of which have been recognized as popular healing plants in South-East Asia. (B. ramiflora), (B. angulata), (B. courtallensis), (B. macrophylla), (B. macrocarpa), (B. lanceolata), (B. racemosa) and (B. motleyana) are underutilized medicinal plants of the genus Baccaurea. The literature review revealed that Baccaurea species have been used traditionally in South-East Asian countries to treat various diseases. Baccaurea species have been believed to possess significant medicinal values like analgesic, anthelmintic, antioxidant, anti-diarrheal, antiatherosclerotic, anticancer, antidiabetic, neuropharmacological, thrombocytic, antimicrobial, etc. activities. Few species of the Baccaurea genus have demonstrated significant exposure to phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, carotenoids, tannins, phytosterols, saponins, phenolic compounds, steroids, rosmarinic acids, etc. Several bioactive constituents including 6′-O-vanilloylpicraquassioside D, 4′-O-(6-O-vanilloyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl tachioside D, Icariside B5, picrotoximaesin, β-sitosterol, Sapidolide A, Daucosterol, methyl 2-hydroxy-3-methylbutanoate, quercetin, decanoic acid, etc. were also isolated and described from various species of Baccaurea. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the published article which is based on the medicinal values of different species of Baccaurea genus, provide updated information and knowledge on the ethnomedicinal, pharmacological and phytochemical properties and further phytochemical assessment opens a new prevalence, effectiveness in protection and clinical research.

Medicinal plants abound with many phytochemicals that are effective in representing lots of pharmacological activities. The current study aimed at investigating the phytochemical and pharmacological activity of crude methanol extract of Calamus rotang L. (CRME) leaves. The analgesic activity and thrombolytic activity were examined by the acetic acid-induced writhing method, while the clot lysis effect was evaluated by an in-vitro thrombolytic method. From this study, it is stated that the extract (400, 200 mg/kg) reduced abdominal writhing by 31.06% and 44.33% for 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg respectively while the standard showed 58.57% of inhibition and increased the pain reaction time in mice when compared to that of the negative control group in tailimmersion test. The extract presented 16.2 ± 1.75% of human blood clot lysis in the thrombolytic experiment. The presence of steroids, saponins, glycosides, cardenolides, flavonoids, carbohydrates, and reducing sugars might have an influence on the pharmacological activity of CRME. INTRODUCTION: Traditional medicines are very popular with a view to having an intense historical and cultural value in many developing countries 1. It has also gained popularity for its tremendous medicinal properties in the treatment and prevention of different types of diseases 2. A report published by WHO states that about 80% of the world"s population relies mainly on herbal medicine for their primary health care needs, and most of the traditional therapy uses the plant extracts and their active constituents due to their safety and effectiveness 3, 4 .

Computer-aided Approaches to Support the Ethnopharmacological Importance of Dillenia pentagyna Roxb.: An In silico Study

Dillenia pentagyna Roxb., a deciduous and medium sized tree, is an ethnobotanically important species of several Asian countries including Bangladesh, Srilanka, and India. Various parts of this endangered tree including leaf, bark, root etc. are used in folkloric medicine systems for a very long time. It is locally used in the treatment of pain, wound healing, diabetes, diarrhea and other disease states. Molecular docking is an important technique to validate the exerted pharmacological actions of a plant or specific phytoconstituents by assessing the binding affinity and interaction pattern between small molecules and particular target receptors. Thus, to justify the notable ethnobotanical importances of D. pentagyna, an in silico study was designed employing selected phytochemicals i.e. isorhamnetin, lupeol, quercetin, kaempferol, and betulin isolated from this plant based on previous literature searches. The molecular docking revealed strong binding affinities (-4.8 to -12.9 kcal/mol) with the respective target proteins: 2OYE, 6COX, 4YK5, 5ZHP, and 1A5H. Besides, in accordance with the Lipinski’s rules, all five selected compounds of D. pentagyna showed promising orally active drug-like characteristics. To recapitulate, the present study has been found parallel with the existing ethnobotanical significance of D. pentagyna as the source of pain, fever, thrombosis, and diarrhea management agent.
