Background: Liver cancer remains to grow worldwide. We aimed to describe the period prevalence (PP) and incidence rates (Irs) for liver cancer in Isfahan Province that is located in the center of Iran and ranked as the third province in terms of population.Methods: Information related to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results; (SEER) was collected from the Isfahan Cancer Registry. Period prevalence (PP) was calculated per 100,000 people. The cancer sites studied were defined according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-O; Third Edition) and recorded by topography code (C22).Result: Among all registered liver cancer patients, 57% of the 920 cases were male. The mean age of the patients was 65.9 ± 16.8 years. Reported age in 13% of the patients was less than 50 years and as high as 84% were in between 50 to 90 years. With a total PP of 18.5 per 100,000 people, this value was 24.4% higher in males when compared to females (16.8 vs. 20.9). In the previous years, incidences were 3.9 (2011-2012), 5.3 (2012-2013), 4.9 (2013-2014) and 4.2 (2014-2015) per 100,000 people. There were 89% reported deaths among the total population.Conclusion: The PP for liver cancer in male population was approximately 24.4% higher than females. There was a 7.7% increase in the Irs over the study period. Further study toward estimation of the proportion of the causes of liver cancer and deaths due to infection of hepatitis B and C virus, exposure to aflatoxin, alcohol drinking and smoking seem to be advantageous. Therefore, the plan of healthcare system should focus on greater effort toward strategic evidence-based pharmacotherapy in Isfahan province/Iran.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) as the most frequent malignant disease of the gastrointestinal tract, shows around 9.5% of all incident cancer internationally. However, different countries report dissimilar rates in incidence, but the rates change with time. Objectives: The aim of this study was to provide information associated with the CRC rate of incidence in Isfahan Province, Iran. Methods: This investigation was accompanied by Isfahan Kidney Transplantation Research Center. Data were collected from the Isfahan Cancer Registry. Period prevalence (PP) and incidence rate (Irs) were considered and reported per 100,000 persons. Results: In all, there were 2623 patients with CRC comprised of 2112 alive and 511 deceased reported individuals. For the total population, the PP was calculated as 52.6 and Irs significantly increased (P < 0.01) from 10.3 to 15.1 per 100,000 people. The mean (SD, range) age of the patients was 62.0 (14.4, 3-98) years. The total PP was corresponded to a value of 22.6 for females and 30.1 for males. Conclusions: There was a 47% increase in the rate of incidence over the investigated period. The PP was 6.8% higher in males than in females. In relation to the age, cancers occurred in 82% after 50 years old of life. Therefore, for allocation of health-care resources and attention toward strategic-based decisions, further studies in this direction seem to be advantageous.

Background: Metastatic or primary cancers of the central nervous system are a dissimilar cluster of neoplasms with different consequences and management plans. The aim of this study was to obtain prevalence and incidence of brain and other nervous system tumors. Results: In all, 423 females and 620 males were identified. For the total population the period prevalence (PP) was calculated as 20.9 per 100,000 persons. This value corresponded to a PP of 24.5 for males and 17.2 for females. The mean (SD, range) age of the patients was 52.0 (20.7, 1-99) years. In the 7% of the population studied, age was under 20 years old of life, and in the 71%, it occurred around the age of 20 to 70 years old. In both genders, incidence rate (IR) increased from 4.2 to 5.7 per 100,000 persons. The changes of IR in males versus females were 8.2 versus 3.0 from 2011 to 6.4 versus 5.0 to 2015 per 100,000 persons. Conclusions: Among the total population studied, there were 586 reported deaths. The PP in the male population was 1.4-times higher than females. There was a 35.7% increase in the IR over the study period.
