Preliminary spectroscopic investigation of some PVA membranes gamma irradiated

Abstract: Abstract:The UV-VIS absorption property and the structural modification of PVA membranes gamma irradiated were investigated by XRD, UV-VIS and Raman spectroscopies. The increase of UV absorbance is observed after irradiation. This behavior is correlated with the scission effect and local ordering of the polymeric chain induced by irradiation. These effects were probed by XRD and Raman spectroscopy.

“…These changes are accompanied with the the chain scission, molecular fragmentation, atom ionization, cross-linking, crystallization, or free radical apparition. However, the nature of the changes along with the magnitude depend on both the composition and structure of the polymeric matrix and the dose of ionizing radiation [21].…”

“…The figure shows a reduction in absorption for pure PVA with increasing wavelength from 200 nm to 300 nm, along with the appearance of an absorption peak at 280 nm. This peak is due to the π-π * transition, related to the carbonyl groups (C=O) along with ethylene unsaturation (C=C) of the type -(CH=CH) 2 CO-[21]. The presence of carbonyl functionalities can be probably explained by residual acetate groups that…”
