Preliminary compilation of descriptive geoenvironmental mineral deposit models

Abstract: This preliminary compilation of geoenvironmental models represents a monumental effort, completed within a very short time frame, by the authors of the individual models. All of the authors are to be commended for a job well done. I wish to express my thanks to Bill Miller and Ted Theodore who agreed to review the first version of the compilation. This was a huge job, completed with remarkable swiftness, for which I am very grateful. I would also like to thank

“…Tools such as a qualitative, conceptual geoenvironmental model (du Bray, 1995), can facilitate identification of potential geochemical indicators of contamination and sequestration agents related to a given deposit type. In this context, geoenvironmental models include a ''compilation of geologic, geochemical, geophysical, hydrologic, and engineering information pertaining to the environmental behavior of geologically similar deposits prior to mining and resulting from mining, mineral processing and smelting'' (Seal et al, 1995).…”

“…In both of these instances a "na" (not available) notation is entered in the model number fields. The entry in the environmental model field identifies the geoenvironmental model (duBray, 1995) that best describes the pre-mining and post-mining environmental signature that is associated with the deposit-type.…”

“…Preliminary models were completed in 1995 (du Bray, 1995). Since then, individual deposit models have been refined, such as those for base-and precious-metal massive sulfide deposits and gold deposits (Seal and Hammarstrom, 2003).…”
