This study was conducted at Felda Jengka 8, Pahang in Malaysia to find out the contents of heavy metals in palm oil soil and fruit farm soil adjacent to estimate the pollution level. Four types of selected heavy metals namely Cu, Zn, Pb and Ni in different soil sampling point were collected in triplicates and analysed by Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) after wet digestion. Contamination factor (CF) and geo-accumulation index (Igeo) were used to estimate the degree of contamination heavy metal in soil. Heavy metal concentration range were as follow; 0.910 – 2.000 mg/kg for Cu, 0.460 – 2.060 mg/kg for Zn, 0.080 – 0.220 mg/kg for Pb and 0.020 – 0.100 mg/kg for Ni. Cu and Zn concentration was found to be higher than other metal concentrations. The continuous application of chemical fertilizers possibly related to accumulation of heavy metals in soil. Results showed CF values were between moderate to considerable contaminant especially in palm oil soil. While, for Igeo values were indicated uncontaminated to fairly contaminated for the study sites. This recommends the utilization of chemical fertilizer is still in the monitoring. However, more physicochemical analyses are needed for metal analysis and determination of other heavy metal elements such as Cd, As, Se and Cr for further research. The application of chemical fertilisers in the agricultural soil can increase the level of heavy metals. This study was carried out in an oil palm plantation to identify presence of selected heavy metals in soil and estimate the pollution level due to presence of these compounds. The soil samples were collected in triplicates using a hand auger. The samples were then digested and the heavy metals were analysed using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES). Geo-accumulation index (I geo ) was used to assess the degree of heavy metal contamination. Heavy metal concentration ranges were as follow: 0.76-2.00 mg kg -1 for Cu, 0.29-1.58 mg kg -1 for zinc (Zn), 0.07-0.22 mg kg -1 for lead (Pb) and 0.01-0.05 mg kg -1 for nickel (Ni). Copper (Cu) concentration was found to be higher than others. The accumulation of Cu and Zn in soil was possibly related to the application of chemical fertilisers. All samples showed I geo value less than 2, indicating that the soil was uncontaminated. This suggests that the application of chemical fertiliser is still under control. Nevertheless, a comprehensive metal analysis including arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd), as well as the distribution pattern of metal in the agricultural soil is still required.

Rainwater samples were collected in Jengka, Pahang Malaysia. Temperature, pH, TDS, EC, Al, Cu, Mn, and Zn were measured. The concentrations of heavy metals (Al, Cu, Mn and Zn) in thirty-eight samples were analysed using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Statistical analysis results indicate that pH, TDS, and EC showed significant differences between wet and dry seasons. However, no significant difference was observed seasonally for heavy metals (HMs). All parameters, except pH, were below the Malaysian Drinking Water Guidelines (MDWG) value and the health risk assessment for HMs indicates the safe levels. Principal component analysis (PCA) suggests that HMs in rainwater in Jengka, Pahang were originated from natural and anthropogenic sources.
