Preliminary Analysis on the River Danube Water Quality by Using Different Kinds of Methods

Abstract: In Romania, the surface waters monitoring is carried out for most of the water quality indicators, according to the specific European Directives, generally once a month. The most important surface water in Romania is the Danube River, which is the second largest river in Europe. In this study, approximatively 30 chemical and physico-chemical indicators were monitored weekly for over a two-month period. The parameters were determined using different types of methods (volumetric, electrochemical, spectrophotomet… Show more

“…The physicochemical and radiological parameters of dinking water depend on the water source used. In the studied area one of the water sources used is the Danube river, characterized in many scientific works [68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76].…”

“…Correlation analysis of the relationships between various water quality indices in the lower reaches of the Danube river is presented in [12]. On the basis of water quality monitoring data below Galaţi, Romania, 56 significant correlations were revealed between various water quality indices (the level of significance does not exceed 5 %).…”

“…Phycological parameters were not taken into account in the studies [12][13][14]. Correlation relationships between aquatic chemistry and phycological indices for the Danube have not been studied.…”

“…The Danube River Basin is recognized as the world's largest hydrographic basin, with borders with 19 industrialized countries, the Danube River being the second longest river in Europe after the Volga [26,27]. The lower course of the Danube River represents about 30% of its length and crosses Romania from Bazias to Sulina on a length of 1075 km, being the most important surface water in Romania and one of the most important rivers that flow into the Black Sea [21,28]. More than 80 million people live in this basin, many of them depending on the Danube for potable water, energy production, agriculture and transport.…”
