Pregnancy-specific stress, fetoplacental haemodynamics, and neonatal outcomes in women with small for gestational age pregnancies: a secondary analysis of the multicentre Prospective Observational Trial to Optimise Paediatric Health in Intrauterine Growth Restriction

Abstract: ObjectivesTo examine associations between maternal pregnancy-specific stress and umbilical (UA PI) and middle cerebral artery pulsatility indices (MCA PI), cerebroplacental ratio, absent end diastolic flow (AEDF), birthweight, prematurity, neonatal intensive care unit admission and adverse obstetric outcomes in women with small for gestational age pregnancies. “…Patients present a deficit in emotion regulation abilities in response to an acute psychosocial stressor (190). Stress itself may complicate the course of pregnancy and can cause preterm deliveries or intrauterine growth restriction, regardless the diagnosis of ED (191). Women with EDs may display severe malnutrition, leading to hypothalamic dysfunction, low bone mass and precocious osteopenia (44,62).…”
