Pregnancy Check Point for Diagnosis of CKD in Developing Countries

Abstract: Objective Evidences suggest that females with CKD are associated with high risk of maternal and fetal complications. Early referral in CKD with pregnancy for specialist care may prove useful for maternal and fetal outcome. Methods Study looked for assessment of impact of CKD detection at the time of pregnancy and its impact on fetal and maternal outcome. Results A total of 465 females were retrospectively evaluated for renal status during their pregnancies, 172 females were unaware about their renal illness at… Show more

“… 22 , 43 The importance for correctly identifying CKD in this context may be even higher in low-income countries, where pregnancy is often the first occasion to undergo a medical evaluation. 44 , 45 Definition of follow-up might be guided by the consideration that the first time peak in between the last pregnancy and the kidney biopsy lasts about 5 years. Although attention should not be limited to glomerular diseases, increased knowledge on this subset of cases will also help us understand the development of CKD.…”

“…In the case of severe infection, persistent fever, severe hyperemesis or other diseases potentially causing pregnancy-related acute kidney injury (AKI), serum creatinine should be routinely measured and followed up at least to full normalization. AKI and CKD are intrinsically linked and attention to AKI can lead to early CKD diagnosis [ 20–22 ]. As we lacked epidemiological data, we did not consider this event in the present model.…”

“…Outras gestantes com complicações tais como pré-eclâmpsia, abrupção placentária ou outras hemorragias podem apresentar alterações na função renal que também podem evoluir para DRC 1 . A gestação é um teste cardiometabólico e de estresse renal para mulheres com ou sem DRC e claramente uma situação de alto risco para mulheres com DRC pré-terminal ou terminal 15,16 .…”
