“…27 In this case, general anaesthesia was preferred as it allowed greater control of the systemic vascular resistance. 28 Furthermore, regional anaesthesia was deemed unsuitable for our patient in view of her multiple prolapsed intervertebral discs and history of cortical arteriovenous malformation. Routine antibiotics are not recommended for most mothers with heart disease; however, our patient was given three days of intravenous antibiotics peripartum in view of her history of infective endocarditis and her right-to-left shunt.…”

“…Regarding the benefit of surgery for pregnancies in UVH patients, Buckland and Pickett [9] have reviewed the outcomes for pregnancy of 11 UVH patients who received the Fontan procedure for various types of UVHs before 2000. It was found that the pregnant patients with Fontan repair had good prognosis.…”

“…In the current study, we conducted a literature research and review for the pregnancy in UVH patients since 2000. To our best knowledge, a total of 9 cases of pregnancy in UVH patients have been reported since 2000 [1,2,[9][10][11][12][13], the results are summarized in Table 1. Except for one case [12] that showed severe maternal symptoms and obvious fetal growth delay with oligohydramnios and received a termination of pregnancy at 27-week gestation, all of the other 8 cases had a good outcome for both mother and fetus.…”

“…Furthermore, appropriate postoperative analgesia contributes a lot to avoiding the catecholamine secretion that increases PVR, reduces pulmonary blood flow, and results in severe cyanosis. [26] Since spinal anesthesia provides a reliable analgesic effect, and the epidural catheter is retained to maintain the anesthesia while extending the surgical time, the combined spinal epidural anesthesia method was chosen. Since regional anesthesia can cause systemic hypotension, fluid infusion was administered in advance, and invasive BP monitoring was performed before anesthesia.…”
