Pregnancy and primary Sjögren’s syndrome: management and outcomes in a multicentre retrospective study of 54 pregnancies

Abstract: pSS is responsible for an increased risk of spontaneous abortion. The duration of pregnancy is lower in patients with than without pSS, with more premature deliveries. Pregnancies that occur after the onset of the disease result in lower birthweight percentile children than when pSS is not clinically overt.

“…The incidence of preterm delivery was significantly higher in women with pSS than the references in several previous studies. [10,[17][18][19][20] Our study is in accordance with these results, and the risk of preterm birth was also fourfold higher in moderate to late preterm subgroups of women with pSS.…”

“…[10]Immunological disturbances in patients with pSS could be responsible for the decrease in the neonatal birthweight through placental insufficiency. [10,19] A previous study confirmed that no significant difference was found regarding way of delivery. [22] However, our study indicated a high rate of cesarean section (cases vs references: 37.5% vs 15.0%), consistent with a previous study.…”

“…Těhotenství u žen s PSS má ve většině případů stejný průběh jako u zdravé populace, avšak ženy s PSS, které tvoří autoprotilátky anti-Ro/SS-A, mají zvýšené riziko porodu dítěte s neonatálním SLE [14]. Dále se ukazuje, že ženy s PSS mají dvakrát vyšší riziko potratu oproti zdravé populaci [2].…”
