Pregnancy and pre-term delivery in a peritoneal dialysis patient in a public hospital in Peru. Case report

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a low conception and success rates. There are reports of pregnant women on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis (PD), with premature births. The case of an elderly patient with a pregnancy on PD and preterm delivery is reported. Case presentation: A 43-year-old female patient, hypertensive and with CKD 5 on PD. While on PD, she discovered pregnancy. She was maintained on manual PD. At 31 weeks of gestation, she presented premature rupture of membranes. She was born vaginally. Conclusion: PD is a safe therapy during pregnancy.
