Acne and acneiform eruptions during pregnancy need special attention. The physician should be aware of the special condition of a pregnant patient. Acne treatments may aim to prevent worsening, secondary infections, scarring and lowering self-esteem of the mother. However, the treatment of acne and acneiform eruptions are not easy to treat during pregnancy. First, because many cosmetics and procedures are not tested on pregnant patients and it is impossible to predict the possible consequences of the procedures on fetus, many women quit cosmetic procedures during pregnancy. Second, the underlying conditions such as hormonal influx and immunosuppression continue. Third, the medications for acne have limitations due to the lack of evidence of safety during pregnancy. Here, a acneiform eruptions during pregnancy, including acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, perioral dermatitis, and hidradenitis suppurativa, are reviewed focusing on these points and each of them is evaluated by clinical presentation, differential diagnosis and treatment options focusing on maternal and fetal safety.

Fox-Fordyce Disease: Successful Treatment with Topical Clindamycin in Alcoholic Propylene Glycol Solution

We report a 66-year-old woman with a 3-year history of intensely pruritic follicular papules in the axillar, pubic and inguinal areas. Previous treatment with topical fusidic acid and gentamicin sulfate was ineffective. The clinical and histological examination was consistent with Fox-Fordyce disease. Application of clindamycin in an alcoholic propylene glycol solution led to the clearing of the lesions within 1 month. Nine months later, the treatment was stopped, and no recurrence was observed.

Background: Physiologic skin changes are common during pregnancy due to a temporary shift in hormonal, metabolic, and immunologic factors. Physicians may mistake normal skin changes in pregnancy as pathologic change within the skin, and so an appreciation of the common and less common skin manifestations will assist in appropriate patient care.Objective: This review highlights the normal physiologic skin changes in pregnancy, which include pigmentary changes, changes to the hair and nails, alterations in glandular activity, vascular and hematological changes, cutaneous tumors, and mucous membrane changes.Conclusion: Physiologic changes to the skin in pregnancy can be complex and confusing. Pregnancy can be a stressful time for women so it is imperative that physicians be aware of the normal skin changes during pregnancy in order to prevent unnecessary investigations and treatments.AnteÂceÂdents: Les changements physiologiques de la peau, dus a Á un de Âre Áglement hormonal, me Âtabolique et immunologique temporaire, sont courants durant la grossesse.
