Preferred Color Temperatures at 200lx during Exposure to Cool or Warm Environments for Middle-Aged Female Subjects

Abstract: Lighting designers have long accepted Kruithof's proposal that warm lighting is preferred over low intensities of illumination, and cool lighting is preferred over high intensities of illumination. However, when considering these preferences in color temperatures, Kruithof's proposal does not take into account seasonal changes or differences in age. Kakitsuba et al. (2000a, 2000b, 2003) demonstrated a seasonal change in color temperatures preferred by young Japanese subjects aged between 19 and 27 under illumi… Show more

“…However, Kruithof's work was critically criticized because of the lack of test subjects and technical explanations. The concept of his work however, was widely referenced by multiple scholars such as [36], [37], [39] and [40] as certain standard for lighting condition evaluation or application, and it also sparked the concept of correlating the two parameters. This might mainly because of the lack of even better graphical and simpler correlation of the two parameters.…”

“…The temperature in the day care centre was kept at room temperature. Ishi and Kakitsuba [37] mention that the preferences of colour temperatures according to the Kruithof diagrams [32] do not take seasonal changes or differences in age into account. Older people may have a preference for higher colour temperatures over lower colour temperatures.…”
