“…The size of defects in the bulk superconducting matrix, which are responsible for flux pinning, should be typically twice the size of the coherence length (a few nano-meters in YBCO) to optimize the flux pinning force. To date the defect density in melt processed (RE)-Ba-Cu-O bulk superconductors has been engineered partially by refining the size of RE 2 BaCuO 5 (RE-211) second phase inclusions in the bulk matrix and by increasing their density [1,2]. RE-211 particles, however, tend to ripen during the REBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ (RE-123) peritectic solidification process [3], and, as a result, refining the size of these inclusions on the nano-scale has generally proved unsuccessful.…”

“…The good coincidence of this back curve with the fitted curve on the whole range gives the proof of feasibility of Eq. (15) instead of (14). …”

“…Moreover, after the development of the melt-textured (MT) technology (see [14] and references therein) of HTS bulks processing, a real interest in the levitation systems for so-called largescale (LS) applications [15,16] has appeared. The LS systems like flywheels for energy storage, electric motors and generators, permanent magnets, etc.…”

“…Typically the seed is placed on the top of the sample, promoting epitaxial growth of Y-123 at the Nd-123 -Liquid+Y 2 BaCuO 5 (Y-211) interface [8]. Moreover, a thermal gradient can be applied in order to improve the domain growth.…”

“…Numerous studies on YBCO bulk materials focus on the optimisation of their microstructure and electrical properties [5,8,10,13,[15][16][17][18], but little is known about the mechanical properties of these materials.…”
